Gwendell Desmond Gwen Kingrey

Gwen is buried in Ft. Jesup Cemetery, Ft. Jesup, Sabine Parish, LA.  This cemetery is located off LA 6 in the Ft. Jesup community just west of Natchitoches Parish line.  Turn down the side road that runs in front of the restored Ft. Jesup building.  As you enter the main gate of the cemetery, Gwen's grave is about midways left to right and near the back.

Local High School Student Dies in Farm Accident Near Clarence

A Natchitoches High School junior student was killed instantly Thursday morning just west of Clarence when he fell beneath the blades of a mower being pulled by his tractor.

Dead is Gwendell D. Kingrey, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur R. Kingrey of Clarence.

Dr. D. H. Pierson, Natchitoches Parish Coroner, said the youth died of multiple skull fractures, crushing chest injuries and compound fractures of his right leg.

The accident occured about 9 a.m. in a pasture where Kingrey and another yourth were each driving a tractor pulling large mowers cutting grass.

One wheel of Kingrey's tractor apparently struck a stump causing the vehilce to lurch and hrowing the youth beneath the grass blades.

The boy was in the 11th grade at Natchitoches High School and was a member of the school's football team last season.

Funeral services were held Friday in the chapel of the First National Funeral Home at 3 p.m.  The Rev. A. E. Wingfield officiated.

Burial was in the Fort Jessup Cemetery under the direction of James Coco of Firt National Funeral Home.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kingrey of Clarence; two brothers, Donald and Ronald Kingrey of Clarence; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Maricelli of Fort Jessup and Mrs. E. E. Kingrey of DeQuincy.

Pallbearers were Trent Melder, Roy Gentry, Johnny Aaron, Don Stephens, Edward Horton and Sonny Roberts.

Rosemary Neitte (Matthews)

A movie was made about the life of Gwendell and filmed in Natchitoches and Robeline.  It was called "The Man in the Moon" and may still be available for purchase or can be seen sometimes on television.  Good movie!
