Edmond Sidney Moreland, Sr.
Born in Natchitoches, Louisiana on Dec. 18, 1946
Departed on Jan. 8, 2012 and resided in Wimberley, TX.

Service: Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012

Edmond Sidney Moreland, Sr. left this earth on Friday January 6, 2012. He is preceded in death by his father, William Benjamin Moreland, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Elva Claire DeLeon Moreland; siblings, William Benjamin Moreland, Jr., Janice Blocker, Janet Emberlin and Cyril Moreland; children, Edmond Sidney Moreland, Jr., his wife Jennifer Miller Sabatier, his daughter, Kasey Moreland Alley and her husband, Frank Dalton Alley, Jr.; his grandchildren, Jade Thomas Myles, Caitlin Anne Myles, Summer Elizabeth Myles, Stella Alley, Max Alley and William Fletcher Moreland. He is also survived by a large family of nieces, nephews and cousins. He considered his nephew, Matthew Benjamin Moreland, a second son. He is survived by his favorite Uncle and great friend, Dr. James Edmond Moreland, for whom he had the utmost admiration. He is also survived by his loving companion, Ramona Beavers, of Marietta, GA.
Ed was born on December 18, 1946 in Natchitoches, LA and was raised on a dairy farm and pecan orchard in Powhatan, Louisiana. He had fond memories of the farm, even though it required very hard work from a young age. He married Cheryl Ann Lawson, who is the mother of his two children, Edmond, Jr. and Kasey. He went to Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana and received a B.S. in Animal Science.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1970 and proudly and bravely served his country in the Vietnam War, and even volunteered for a second tour of duty. Although he had many painful memories of the war, he met some of his life-long friends and kept in touch with them throughout his life. He went on to pursue a career in the airline industry. He worked for Royale, a small commuter airline in Louisiana and Texas during the late 1970s. He later worked for Air Florida until 1984. He then went on to work for Southwest Airlines, where he worked until his initial retirement in 2006. After retiring from Southwest in 2006, he worked for Copa Airlines in Panama, flying throughout Latin America. He returned to Southwest Airlines in April 2008 to finish out his career. He spent many years of his life in the air and was very proud of that accomplishment. He loved to fly and always reiterated to his children the importance of loving what you do for a living.
He lived in Friendswood, Texas from 1984-2011. In 2011, he bought and relocated to his dream property in Wimberley, Texas to be near his children and grandchildren. He lived in Wimberley and was blissfully happy in his final months on this earth.
His defining trait in life was to help and comfort other people. He showed how much he loved by doing so much for so many. He is such a compassionate and selfless spirit. His love was too great for this earth. He can now be everywhere at once and love everyone who he loved without the fear of spreading himself too thin. He is now a guardian angel for the hundreds of thousands of lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the "Salivating" Army (Salvation Army). All he ever loved and knew was to help others. His earthly presence will be profoundly missed but he is with us, everywhere.

Larry & Carolyn Holly's grandson, Johnny Elmore "Beau" McMahan IV, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout last night, 27 Dec 2011, in a Court of Honor in Beaumont, TX. This is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America and must be completed before reaching 18 years of age. It is a significant achievement that follows a young man throughout his life. Very few Scouts actually reach that rank. As I understand it, this accomplishment will get you into Texas A&M. By the way, anyone know what you call an Aggie five years after graduation? :) "Boss"!
