Traveling with a firearm

Many will be traveling now that we've reached that "senior age" and are all retired.  :)  Traveling safety first of all requires that we carry a cell phone.

Secondly, many of us will not travel without a defensive weapon in our vehicles, basically a handgun.  But, every time you cross a state line you have entered into a new demension as the old TV program, Twilight Zone, would say.  How do you keep yourself from being thrown into jail and charged with a felony in states that insist you have no right to defend yourself with a firearm such as California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts.  Well, one way is to avoid those states, that may not always be realistic.  To the rescue, somewhat, is a book, Traveler's Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States by a lawyer named, J. Scott Kappas.  This book can be purchased locally or probably by contacting the author via www.gunlawguide.com.

This book lists each of the states and tells in a general sense what their laws are as they relate to handguns, long guns, even machine guns.  He also tells if the state has a Castle Doctrine, such states have codified the right to defend yourself.

It further tells what the "concealed carry" laws are in each state and which states honor the concealed carry permits of other states.  A Louisiana concealed carry permit is accepted by, generally,  37 states in addition to Louisiana.
